The Treasury - privacy and your personal information

IMPORTANT: Do not submit your personal information to the Treasury if you do not want your information to be dealt with in the ways described in this statement.

By submitting an application or registering interest in an opportunity with the Treasury, you will be asked to supply personal information, including application data, contact details, information about your past, previous activities and employers, and ‘sensitive information’ which includes information about your gender, ethnicity, health-related information or criminal history ("your personal information").

While the Treasury provides a secure environment, you should be aware that there are inherent risks associated with the transmission of information via the Internet. Once submitted, your personal information will be stored on a separate server in Australia owned and managed by our recruitment application service provider, PageUp People Pty Ltd. Please be assured that your personal information can only be accessed by authorised staff at PageUp People and the Treasury. From time to time, the Treasury may also engage recruitment agents and/or personnel providers to assist with the selection process. This includes uploading your personal information onto a software database managed by Xref (AU) Pty Ltd and conducting police checks and information verification through a portal on the Xref platform provided by CV Check Limited. The Treasury will otherwise handle your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles and the Treasury has taken contractual measures to ensure that its contractors abide by the same obligations. Your personal information will only be stored by the Treasury in Canberra, or on the Xref server in Sydney, but may be sent overseas to enable Xref, its subcontractors and CV Check to assist the Treasury.

Once your personal information is submitted, relevant Treasury staff will access and use the information you have provided to:
• Assess and administer your application, including contacting your referees and verifying educational qualifications and checking your criminal history;
• Communicate with you in relation to your application;
• Comply with any legal or regulatory obligations;
• Use de-identified and aggregated data for reporting purposes; and
• Monitor and review our recruitment practices.

You can access your information via your allocated User ID and Password, and can change your personal information at any time during the recruitment process. However, you will not be able to change the Statement against the Selection Criteria or your Resume after the closing date for applications.

We prefer applications are made online where available. If you are unable to access the online system or would prefer to provide your application by another medium, please contact the Treasury at recruitment@treasury.gov.au, or call (02) 6263 2222 (option 3) during business hours.

If your application is unsuccessful, the Treasury may retain your personal information. If you are placed on an order of merit, your personal information may be passed on to other APS agencies looking to fill a vacant position. You may 'opt-out' at any time. Your records will be retained for de-identified reporting purposes, and disposed of as required by the Archives Act 1983. If your application is successful, the Treasury will retain the personal information you have provided as part of your employment records.
