Privacy Statement

The University of Melbourne is requesting this information from you so that we can assess and process your application for employment with the University. To do so, we may conduct some or all of the following pre-employment screening checks:

  • Confirmation of education and/or previous employment
  • Reference checks of referees you nominate
  • Confirmation of professional memberships

Where required by law, or relevant to a particular position, we may also conduct some or all of the following pre-employment screening checks:

  • Working with Children Check
  • Criminal history
  • Bankruptcy
  • Directorship search
  • Company checks.

Your information is also collected for benchmarking, analysis, quality assurance and planning purposes, as well as to comply with legislative reporting requirements. Information about successful applicants will be retained and used for employment purposes (pay wages, approve leave etc.). Information about unsuccessful applicants will be destroyed six months after recruitment has been finalised.

We will not disclose your personal information to anybody else, unless you have given consent, or we are authorised or required to do so by law.

Providing us with the requested information is not required by law. However, if you choose not to provide us with it, we may be unable to assess your application or consider you for employment with the University of Melbourne.
